This weekend the team traveled to Ocean City, Maryland. We competed in the SSU Spring Open hosted by Salisbury University out of the Ocean Pines Marina. The regatta took off with a late start, but eventually Robert Jarrett as skipper and Emily Pooley as crew sailed out as A Fleet while Emily Rathburn and Andrew Dos Reis went out on the committee boat later rotating into B Fleet. We got in 2 rotations before breaking for lunch, where both A and B Fleets were able to hold their own finishing with several 2nd and 3rd places out of the 6 boats. After lunch, the wind picked up to a sustained 15 kts. A Fleet went out for another race, but all of the teams were struggling due to the reduced handling of the aging fleet of boats. Robert and Emily capsized along with several of the other teams, but managed to fight the wind and waves to finish the race. With the wind forecasted to continue, the races were called and everyone sailed in. Race committee then called off the races for Sunday due to the even stronger forecasted winds. Overall we came in 2nd place, which is a first for the team.
