This past weekend, our team raced in the Delaware Spring Open at the North East River Yacht Club hosted by University of Delaware. On Saturday, we raced for three rotations with a planned fourth rotation that got cancelled. We raced in light wind from the West that became heavier after the first race of the day suffered a general recall due to lack of wind. Robert Jarrett skippered A fleet with Emily Pooley as crew. Maxwell Denn skippered B fleet with Karina Stech as crew. Both teams did well overall. Robert and Emily got fourth place out of ten boats and never dropped below ninth place. Maxwell and Karina ran into some trouble however during the start of their last race. Their mast de-stepped on the start line! They managed to avoid hitting four of the five boats in the vicinity. RC came and helped them de-rig their boat and gave them a tow in.

On Sunday, we had a later start time. We rigged the boats, geared up to go out but got delayed. And then delayed again. By 11:45, there wasn't any hope of more wind so the race was called. Not all was lost. We did get to tan while we waited. Overall, we came in 9th place out of 10 boats. A fleet beat both Princeton and Penn State. B fleet outsailed Princeton. We are excited to finally be able to sail in nice weather for the last few weeks of the season!
