On Friday, October 5th, the Rutgers Sailing Team left for the University of Delaware’s McCurdy Memorial hosted at North East River Yacht Club. Despite a mere 2 knots of wind Saturday, Rutgers was able to sail one and a half rotations before ending the racing for the day. On Sunday, the wind was averaging around 7 knots until noon, where it dropped back down to similar conditions as Saturday. At the end of the day, Rutgers completed another two and a half rotations.
Although Rutgers did not win the regatta, the entire team gained much needed sailing experience — Emma Rigassio (‘22) and Adam Warner (‘22) had never skippered a collegiate regatta before, while Shrey Prithyani (‘22), Cole Cappello (‘22), and Oscar Y (‘22) had never crewed. Ultimately, Rutgers finished in 7th with a 42 point lead over Penn State.
