A little over a week ago, our team raced in the Central Spring Open hosted by Ocean County College. On Saturday, we got in a full day of racing, with light, shifty winds around 5-15 kts from the NW. Robert Jarrett skippered A fleet with Kyle Benjamin as crew and Elizabeth Lee crewed for Emily Pooley in B fleet. Emily and Elizabeth pulled off a 12th place out of 18 boats with a close finish in one race in the afternoon. Both boats beat Princeton, American, Catholic, and Webb multiple times. During one of the races, the wind had shifted and teams were racing upwind towards the leeward mark and downwind towards the windward mark.

On Sunday, the wind was still from the NW but held 10-15 kts with 20 kt gusts, making racing both challenging, but also quite fun. Arul Duggimpudi swapped out with Elizabeth in B fleet. Robert and Kyle managed to scrape by with a 9th place of the 18 boats, beating an array of teams including Stevens, Stony Brook, and Christopher Newport, all top sailing schools in our division. The day was long, cold, and hard fought, but alas at the end we came in 18th overall. However, in A fleet Robert and Kyle were able to pull ahead of American University in 17th place. But it was a great regatta, with good racing, weather, and competition.
